Frequently Asked Questions
How do I get started on the MBT Supervisor Pathway?
The best way to get started is to read the MBT Scotland Supervisor Pack which outlines the
requirements, and then discuss your interest in becoming a supervisor with an MBT
Accredited Supervisor (list available on MBT Scotland Website). The MBT Supervisor will
discuss with you whether you are ready to enter the Supervisor Pathway, and advise you on
next steps.
What is the MBT Supervisor Training?
The MBT Scotland Supervisor Training is an online training consisting of 3 half days, usually
delivered online. The content of this training includes theory on supervision models and
how this is applied in MBT, as well as presentation of recorded supervision sessions which
can help towards building your number of supervised supervision sessions for your
portfolio. This is also an opportunity to meet the requirement of having 2 different
supervisors reviewing your supervision recordings.
The training also offers the chance to learn with peers across Scotland.
When can I attend the MBT Supervisor Training?
The training is offered when demand is sufficient to support running a training. You can
attend the training at any stage during your development as an MBT Supervisor. The
training is designed to help you achieve some of the competencies required, and to help
identify any further training needs. The only requirement is that you are able to bring some
recorded supervision sessions to share.
How do I know when an MBT Supervisor Training is available?
This will be advertised through the MBT Scotland website, and circulated to the current
mailing list of MBT Practitioners. You can also ask any MBT Scotland Supervisor, or make a
direct enquiry to MBT Scotland ( mbtscotland@gmail.com )
Do I have to have completed the NES Generic Supervision course before attending the
MBT Scotland Supervisor Training?
No.It is recommended that you attend the NES Generic SV course if you can access a place on
this, but it is not mandatory. You are eligible to apply for the NES Generic SV course if you
have agreed with your MBT Supervisor that you are entering the MBT Supervisor pathway.
What happens once my application is approved?
You will be added to the MBT Scotland list of approved supervisors, and you will be invited
to join the MBT Supervisors group which meets quarterly.
Your name will also be added to the AFC list of UK approved MBT Supervisors.
What if my application to be a supervisor is not successful?
All applications are reviewed by the MBT Scotland Accreditation panel. If the panel does not
feel that you meet the requirements, they will provide feedback to you and your MBT
Supervisor, and may request further evidence or advise on further experience required to
achieve all competencies.
